We will start the tour from the Pico dos Barcelos viewing point, which is located in Funchal, where you will city’s entire panorama. Further, we will go to Eira do Cerrado. That is located at an altitude of 1094 metres above sea level, it is 30 minutes from Funchal, is a landmark of the Madeira Island.
The viewing point offers a magnificent view on the valley of the nuns and on the Curral das Freiras village, from more than one kilometer height. There is a 4-star hotel, large gift shop and a café where you can drink a cup of coffee. Then we will descend into the "valley of the nuns" (it is the translation Curral das Freiras) in a secluded village, that is located in the heart of the island, where in the 16th century the nuns was hiding from the raids of pirates, who often hunted at that time.
On the ground, where chestnut is growing in a large number, people invented a variety of dishes from it - cakes, cupcakes, breads, soups, side dishes (roasted chestnuts) and the liquor which you have to try! A variety of liqueurs is amazing, but we will highlight the a chestnut liquer. Then we will go back to Funchal.
